Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun painted the portraits, mostly in baroque style, of many prominent figure in Europe and Russia from approximately 1770 to 1835. She left France at the outset of the French Revolution. She lived in exile for 12 years traveling Europe while her fame and fortune increased. She was one of the most prominent portrait artists of her time. She completed over 900 paintings including 700 portraits.
