Impressionism
1850 to 1875

Overview

The invention of photography in 1822 with its continual improvement throughout the 19th century led toward an interest in light and lighting effects, just as surely as it led artists away from a photo seeming realism that Caravaggio had popularized at the beginning of the Baroque period.

This gallery contains nearly 400 pictures. Many are stored in special galleries devoted to one artists. You can get to one of those galleries by following the link at the bottom of an artist-description.
