Schiele exhibits at the Galerie Miethke in Vienna. Articles about him in magazines begins to focus collectors attention. Roessler and Gütersloh publish essays on his art.

In mid-May, Egon leaves Vienna for various reasons Among them: the military service threatens, he is in love with Klimt's former model Wally Neuzil, and he not getting along with the other members of his artistic group. So, he rents a garden house in Krumau, his mother's birthplace. He meets and befriends Erwin Osen, a firm believer in avant-garde art who is also an eccentric stage designer and painter.

Schiele continued to be interested in painting nude children, and continuded to work with child models in Krumau. He also lived with his model, Wally Neuzil. The child paintings offend small town morality, but the town scandal was framed in terms of his living arangements with Wally. The social pressure forces Schiele and Neuzil to leave Krumau for nearby Neulengbach in early August.
