Student of Robert Henri.
American painter and lithographer noted for his paintings of action scenes and portraits; he was a member of the Ashcan School of painting.
Bellows attended Ohio State University and studied at the New York School of Art under Robert Henri, leader of the group of American realist painters called The Eight. Bellows' early works show the influence of Henri. Bellows' dramatic paintings of prizefights, such as "Stag at Sharkey's" and "Club Night" are some of his most famous work.
In 1913 Bellows was elected to the National Academy of Design.
He taught at the Art Students League in New York
City. He also contributed illustrations to a socialist magazine:
The Masses.
Bellows was an organizer of the Armory Show of 1913.
